Wanted: Water Walkers !
The Glens Falls Rotary Club is once again looking for groups, individuals, families, clubs and businesses to form teams in preparation for their 7th annual Pure Water Walk. The walk event is scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 4th, 2013 at Crandall Park.
In the past four years the Rotary Club has supported clean water projects by providing bio-sand water filters in rural areas of Haiti, Honduras, and in Guatemala. These filters provide pure drinking and household water to thousands of people in the poorer areas of these countries. The filters require no electricity and will supply a family with drinking water for a lifetime. The Rotary Club has been working closely with Pure Water for the World and the Glens Falls Medical Mission to fund and install the filters in various regions of the Carribean and Central America. So far, money raised in Glens Falls has provided potable water to tens of thousands of people and saved countless lives.
The purpose of Pure Water Walk 8 is to continue the work we began over years ago. This year, the Glens Falls Rotary is continuing our partnership with Pure Water for the World to help raise critically needed funds to bring clean drinking water to the poor families in Haiti. These poor people have experienced unimaginable devastation from the earthquake in January of last year. Water-borne illness is one of the top killers in Haiti and it can be restrained with the use of bio-sand filters. We began in Haiti over six years ago and we will continue our work to save the lives of children and families in the capital city of Port-au-Prince and in communities that surround the area.
Water Walk 8 is a relay-type event which circles inside Crandall Park. The day will include lots of family entertainment and a free BBQ lunch for walkers. Sign up a team and save lives at the same time. Click here for further details on our website or by visiting www.purewaterfortheworld.org . C'mon do it today !
