Program of August 8th - Mark Shaw, President of StoredTech, gave us good overview of the issues regarding cyber security.  According to statistics, there is a breach of security (hack) every 38 seconds.  The age group that is the most careless is between 18-24 with USA leading the world (73%) in hacks globally.  The biggest problem is the use of passwords.  Not the strength of passwords, but using passwords as a means of security. Many companies have implemented 2 step verification as a login feature. Mark recommends going to this whenever possible.  Government rules such as HIPPA, do not have to report security breaches unless the number of people affected is over 1000 for each breach.  For example, 999 records for patients can be tossed in the trash without shredding the documents.  Another interesting point is that support systems, such as HVAC can be hacked to gain access to the additional information from other sources.  The long and short of his presentation is that one must be careful and aware of the many security issued with using our electronics on a daily basis.
