Program for Nov 7th - Adirondack Health Institute, Traves Bethel, Shannon Morrison-Gaczol, and Merry Rudinger spoke about the frightening statistics on Vaping in High School and the health dangers.  Since there was a lot of good information presented, I am sending their presentation in a separate email.  Smoking which used to be declining in the schools has now begun to increase in what appears to be associated with Vaping.  Nearly 50% of 12th High School students have or are Vaping.  The long term effects are unkown and will most likely lead to health issues for people who are Vaping at a young age.

Presidents Project:  Each year, the president of the club has the opportunity for a project of their chosing that is part of our budget. To support our strategic plan and to accomodate the March 1, 2020 deadline for retail grocery stores to cease providing plastic grocery bags to customers, I have purchased cloth grocery bags that have our club name and the Rotary International Logo imprinted on them.  This past week I gave each member attending the meeting one of these cloth grocery bags.  I was able to purchase 750 of these bags which will be given to customers at one or more of our grocery stores in the near future.  For those of you who could not attend the meeting, but would like one of these cloth grocery bags, I will bring a few to subsequent meetings.  Keep on the lookout for volunteering to had these out in the coming weeks.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities: Warm the Children Shoppers - shoppers needed to oversee purchases, Holiday Baskets (meals) for Thanksgiving to be given to families in need - volunteers needed for delivering meals (managed by the Salvation Army). Ringing the Bell for collecting donations for the Salvation Army.  Holiday Baskets (meals) for Christmas (preparing over 900 baskets for needed families as well as delivery (managed by the Salvation Army).  Childrens Books - Queensbury Elementary School.  Be on the lookout for these volunteer opportunities. Committee chairs can be found on our website or contact Ed Fitzgerald, Director of Club Service.
