Warm the Children (WTC) is a collaborative effort among The Post-Star and the communities it serves, in partnership with The Glens Falls Rotary, the Salvation Army, and Southern Adirondack Independent Living (SAIL), among other local agencies, to provide new winter clothing for the children of less fortunate families. Here's how it works.

Here's how it works.
Beginning in the fall each year The Post-Star promotes the program and asks its readers for monetary donations and volunteer shoppers for the Warm the Children Fund. The money is used exclusively to buy new winter clothing for less fortunate children in Warren, Washington and northern Saratoga counties. None of the money is ever used for "administrative fees”.
The Salvation Army and SAIL provides names and contact information of families meeting required criteria for low income determined by the Federal and NY State poverty guidelines. The Post-Star and Glens Falls Rotary recruit volunteer shoppers from the community and pair these with families who have qualified for WTC. These volunteer shoppers meet the families at JC Penney and take them shopping, spending approximately $100- $175 (depending on age) on each eligible child. The Glens Falls Rotary Foundation, Inc provides the 501c3 status umbrella. The Rotary manages the assignment of families and shoppers, coordinates with JC Penny, and pays all of the bills. No money exchanges hands in the shopping experience.
J.C. Penney provides substantial discounts off regular prices, and the Warm the Children Fund is billed for all purchases. The program is simple and easy to administer... and has something for everyone. Mostly, deserving children get nice, new winter clothing (quite often it’s the first new coat or pair of boots the child has ever owned). People in the community benefit, because as volunteer shoppers they have a direct and immediate impact on making life a little better for those children in need.
