Telethon-Auction Promoted District’s “Water Walk ‘07”
Clean Water Ambassador District 7190
On April 7 at 7:00 p.m. a telethon-auction promoting District 7190’s “Water Walk ’07” was beamed to 50,000 households by WNCE-TV8 in Glens Falls.
“This was a great opportunity for us to get into people’s homes to tell them about Rotary and the Water Walk,” says Kay Walter, chair of the event. “We hoped to attract more corporate sponsors, more teams, and more public participation to this event,” she added.
The Water Walk is scheduled for May 12, in Glens Falls. The funds raised will be applied to clean-water projects in Haiti.
The telethon also had an audio stream for the show and put live phone calls on the air. It made the show available to Rotarians interested in clean water all over the world, according to Charles Adams, the show’s producer.
“We’re still investigating new ways through technology ,” Adams says, “but it would be terrific if District 7190’s efforts to fund water projects could be widely seen by the people in the nations we serve, by all the clubs in our District, and elsewhere in the international Rotary community.”
Special interviews on the program were targeted at increasing the number of corporate sponsors. And a strong appeal was made to increase the number of teams in the event.
“And we weren't bashful about asking for money directly,” Walter says. The TV Committee asked members and clubs to donate “good items” for the auction segment of the show.
